Am I Finally Home?

I've been trying to figure out what the hell I am for many many years. Of all people, it was my own mother who suggested I look into asexuality online. It's a smooth fit. I don't know what all else to say by way of quick introduction, other than I'm glad to be here.

Re: [Haven for the Human Amoeba] hi

Dear Nicole:

I'm not a expert on the subject, but it seems to me that there are three types of asexuals. There are those that can't deal with being asexual, there are those that really don't care, and those that proudly embrace their asexuality and make it their mission to spread awareness. If being asexual is something you don't want to deal with, I suggest you go to a doctor and discuss it. Sometimes lack of sex drive can be caused by something medical or psychological. Certain long term medications can kill your libido. Hormone imbalances can do the same. A poor body image can reek havoc on your sexual desire. Maybe a traumatic sexual experience in the past has turned you off to sex.

I don't doubt that, in my case, most of those issues are a factor in my asexual leanings. But the point is, since I don't mind being asexual, I'm not going to take measures to "fix" what "normal" people perceive to be wrong with me. Maybe in the future, if the desire for a husband, 2 kids, a Volvo, and a white picket fence hits me, I might have to look into why I'm asexual. But at this point in time, I'm content with who/what I am.

Now let's just say that you aren't on medication, your hormones are normal, you are happy with your body, and nothing traumatic ever happened to you. You may have to accept that this is who you are and you can't change it, much like a gay person can't snap his/her fingers and become straight or a straight person can't snap his/her fingers and become gay. But at least in accepting that asexuality might be your reality, you will have support. You are not alone.

Check.

and never been in a relationship?

Never been in a *sexual* relationship--check. At least not one *I* considered and consented to be a sexual relationship. Have been sexually assaulted by someone after said someone had expressly agreed that the relationship was *not* to be sexual. And have had non-sexual relationships with people who didn't do that, so I know it's possible. Still, I don't think I'd try it again except with someone who's 100% asexual.

Just thought I would post

Hi all, I've not been part of this group for long, but some of you might know me from AVEN, I'm NeitherSparky. I just wanted to greet the newcomers and assure them that no, they are NOT alone, there really are a lot of us who feel this way. I am 31, female, in America, and the only relationship I was ever in was with a guy who turned out to be gay and trying to look straight to his parents. He chose me to date because, surprise, he found me sexually non-threatening.

I am not an aromantic though, and I hope to one day have a close relationship with someone. To be honest I actually have a couple of fetishes which excite me - its not the same as being sexually attracted to someone and I don't want sex - but in a way I feel blessed to have them, because they are something that give me physical and mental pleasure. Now if I can only find someone to share them with - who *doesn't* want sex as well! ;)

I just wanted to post so y'all know me, so I can maybe join in conversations later on.

'No sex' rule for longer life

'No sex' rule for longer life

Beetles showed scientists why mating cuts life short

Scientists have discovered a reason why having sex could be bad for your health. The research reveals that hormones are the key to mating insects having a shorter life expectancy. The findings may also give clues as to why the same principle appears to hold true for other creatures - including humans. Mealworm beetles, more commonly bought as food for pet reptiles and birds, were used in the research by Dr Jens Rolff and Dr Michael Siva-Jothy at the University of Sheffield. Those organisms that mate the most reduce their own life expectancy in the process

Dr Michael Siva-Jothy, University of Sheffield A hormone released after mating adversely affected an enzyme vital to keep the immune system functioning. The beetles were therefore more susceptible to infection, and less likely to live as long. Although it has long been known that mating in insects can shorten life expectancy, the research by the two doctors is the first time a reason why it happens has been uncovered. Dr Siva-Jothy said: "Those organisms that mate the most, and are therefore more successful in evolutionary terms, reduce their own life expectancy in the process." When insects' immune systems are depressed they become susceptible to parasites, so the findings could have implications on pest control, which may be more effective when the insects are mating. The research could also help explain how sexually-transmitted diseases evolve - by exploiting the depressed immune system when humans have sex. Such diseases also lead to the possibility of a reduction of life expectancy in humans. The scientists' findings are to be published by the National Academy of Sciences in America.

Chinese pensioner proves virginity in court

Chinese pensioner proves virginity in court

An 85-year-old Chinese woman has sued a neighbour who claimed she wasn't a virgin.

The elderly spinster, called Zeng, was awarded 150 compensation and the neighbour was ordered to apologise.

The lawsuit had been going on for about 10 years in Guangdong, reports China Daily, quoting Guangzhou Daily.

A neighbour slandered Zeng, who was very proud of her reputation, during a quarrel in 1994 by saying she had engaged in secret sexual affairs.

Zeng filed a lawsuit against the neighbour and produced a doctor's test backing her claim.

Although the lawsuit was initially thrown out, Zeng lodged an appeal. The Huizhou Intermediate People's Court finally ruled in her favour after reopening the case.

welcome to intro

Hi!

What is your name? Mine is Nicole. I tried Yahoo personals and also Yahoo IM local area chats. I've found some nice people. But let's just say that "asexual" is NOT one of the "fetishes" they cater to. :-) I met lots of horn-doggies (male and female). With a lot of very strange ideas about people who aren't so much into sex. If you can get past the slew of obnoxious comments, some actually make nice pals.

Do you all find that not-into-sex people are shy? Because I did find some "celibate" dating sites and I put personals on there and there are no replies. And other people on there don't get many replies either, so it's not just my bad breath or something. ;-) The other weird thing that happens on the celibate sites is that they are exactly the same as the regular personals. But instead of everyone obsessing about all the stuff they DO sexually and whether or not you'll do it... they obsess about all the stuff they DON'T do sexually and whether or not you won't do it.

Either way, I end up with these weirdos asking me stuff like, "Do you shave it?" before I've even had a chance to introduce myself and say nice to meet you.

AAAACCCCKKKK!!!!

Nicole who is beginning to wonder... Is it that I am so asexual? Or is it that these people are just sooooooo not sexy?

Check-out www.asexualove.net - personals for asexuals

Hi everybody! Asexualove.net is finally something that many of us had been looking for. It's an easy to navigate, personals website for us. There was a message about this already, but I just wanted to put a reminder.

You can put together your ad and see profiles of others. You must check-it-out if you are like me and want to put an end to your misery, find someone to love and live a "normal" life. (Women you can see me there). I think the website is new because there are only a couple of ads. On www.asexualove.net you can find just friends or partners.

Personally, I easily get a crush on nice personality or a nice girl face, love closeness, but when it comes to intercourse it might as well be with a pillow ;-) I'm ultimately looking for someone who can share with me a non sex-pressure love and all the things life has to offer.

Sorry if I seem to be blunt, but it might be in reaction to one of the earlier postings. You're not going to find asexual friends on chat rooms. How many people can there be if this group has only 605 members (about 3 is me because I keep forgetting my ID). And chat rooms are filled with idiots who will just make you more miserable.

I would like to see you there. Kuba680.

Study: Sexual Desire is in Your Genes

Study: Sexual Desire is in Your Genes

LiveScience.com Mon May 29, 12:00 PM ET

Your sexual desire or lack thereof could be in your genes, scientists announced today. The discovery might change how psychologists view sexuality.

The researchers found that individual differences in human sexual desire can be attributed to genetic variations. The study is the first to provide data to show that common variations in the sequence of DNA impact on sexual desire, arousal and function, the researchers said.

The scientists, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, examined the DNA of 148 healthy male and female university students and compared the results with questionnaires asking for the students' self-descriptions of their sexual desire, arousal and sexual function. They found a correlation between variants in a gene called the D4 receptor and the students' self-reports on sexuality.

The results suggest that low sexual desire might be a normal biological condition rather than a psychological problem, the researchers say. Further, it might be possible to develop drugs to alter sexual desire based on the new findings.

The research was led by Richard Ebstein and was published in the online version of the journal Molecular Psychiatry.

Kuba680.
