Hi Nicole, My physician knows I'm Asexual and I've never been treated poorly by her. I know she is a sexually active woman who is now married with one child.
I've mentioned it to a psychologist in the past and it wasn't any big deal.

Has anyone ever tried to talk to a therapist about this?
Cause I did.. He wasn't even capable of imagining life without sex. He treated me like a freak. He told me I might consider being a nun because that's what society did to people like me. And he got mad at me and started making some weird analogy about how he doesn't like people who don't eat their spinach.
(Trained professional. Apparently I sure know how to pick em.)
Has anyone ever talked to anybody who doesn't consider you sick? If possible, I'd love to hear some nice stories about how we got treated like humans. I am not getting this experience regarding this issue very often.
Nicole
nicole there are all kind s of people in this world-good bad ugly, black, white, yellow, happy, funny, racists, hommies, etc etc etc but you know what? HOW we view them is up to us. so if some one thinks you should be a nun ...is a reflection as to HOW HE THINKS YOU SHOULD BE...he is NOT important ---you are...do you understand me?
THERS IS NOTHING GOOD OR BAD ...WHAT IS GOOD IS WHAT WE VIEW AS GOOD....WHAT IS BAD IS WHAT WE AS BAD. For example in Afganistan people think Osama Bin La DIn is a Prophet...in USA people think he is a terrorist. BUT HOW DOES IT MATTER TO HIM WHAT THE WORLD THINKS OF HIM? (do i make sense? who cares what he thinks you should be ...only think matters is WHAT YOU THINK.)
Do i make sense to you? i HAVE FACED THIS THING EXCATELY AS YOU HAVE DESCRIBED JUST FOR YOU INFORMATION.

On , Mary Reese said:Not me!!!! ;-) I love 1 or 2 snoring dog bodies in bed with me every morning. Any other animal people on this list?
Meeeeee! I had to get a queen-size futon so there would still be a little bit of room for me, after the three large dogs (now up to four) and anywhere from 1-4 cats made themselves comfortable. (I don't like them snoring, though. When they snore, I shove them until they stop.) Human housemates would be able to offer some things that dogs and cat's can't, such as intelligent conversation and help with housework. But I wouldn't want to share my bed or even my bedroom with a human.

Dennis, when I said I'd like a roommate or a few of them, I meant non-sexual roommates. I don't want any of that bouncing of the bed crap anywhere near me.
Jen
We'll, what one female friend told me, "If you want to get laid, put an ad on MATCH.COM." She was listed there and was speaking from experience. I hadn't told her I was asexual because I didn't know that's what it was at the time. I think she probably thinks I'm gay or something. Of course, I never put an ad on that service.
I'm always looking for functional friends and not liabilities. When I have to take time out of my schedule to take someone to the movies, to me, that is counterproductive. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind helping a friend move furiture or fix their computer.
For the most part, most of my friends are males. I don't need to explain my sexuality to them because they aren't expecting anything like that from me. Females are much harder to deal with. They can make a hetero male do anything by smiling just right. Essentially, a slave. They don't like me in general because that tail wiggling crap has no effect on me.
I had a roommate in college. I swore that I'd rather live in a car than have to live with another roommate. He was hetero and had several simultaneous girlfriends. He was constantly having sex with them. One was even married to another guy. I'm sure it was always safe sex because he had more rubber in there than goodyear. When they were at it, they ignored the fact that I was there. Then there was the constant arguing about everthing else. I eventually got a 1br place that was a lot more expensive, but it was worth it. I was soooo happy about not having a roommate.
Dennis.
On , J said:Hi Dennis, I've never done a personal ad and likely never will either. I do want a roommate or a couple of them. I prefer someone to just be around the house so to speak. I don't want anyone sleeping in the same room with me. This can keep me awake. Sleeping in the same bed with someone who is NONsexual is still very uncomfortable. My preference is for roomies I enjoy a lot, am relaxed around, unobtrusive and sleep in their own room. Oh yeah, quiet too. LOL
I don't like anyone flirting with me either.

1. Name: Jen
2. Gender: Female
3. Age: 50
4. Location: Northern California
5. Have you ever had sex? This is an invasive question that I would not ask anyone.
6. What gender, if any, are you attracted to? Doesn't matter. I need to feel comfortable and safe.
7. Are you open about your non-sexuality? Actually at my age I now fall into the "old maid" category. Also at my age there are many widows out there so there is little interest in my peer group. Hey the older you get the easier it is. Also, sometimes if the topic arises.
8. Are you married? No & never have been. For most people this requires bumping uglies and I refuse.
9. Do you have or want children? I want children or at least one child. I would prefer a male child. I am considering doing fost-adopt or at least applying for it.
10. Do you like ANY human contact? You bet! I don't want to be touched by just anyone though. I do love affection or shared human contact that has NO sexual content. I even enjoy romance but not sexual energy.
11. Are you bothered by your asexuality? No not personally but it does bother me that it has caused me to be alone most of the time.
12. Do you date? ROFL, no. I wouldn't date anyone unless I was sure I was dating a non-sexual.
13. Have you ruled out possible medical/psychological reasons for your disinterest in sex? It could be ruled in or out and it doesn't really matter to me. I'm simply not having a bump ugly session in my life. Yuck! I'd much rather do something pleasurable and fun.
I like cuddling too. I do not like to sleep with another human because for some reason I don't relax and sleep well.

I'm not exactly a female virgin, but isn't the pap test used to detect cervical cancer? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but they discovered that cervical cancer was caused by an STD virus. They now have a vaccine. But since you are not sexually active, you shouldn't need to worry about STD's or the virus or cervical cancer or pap smears. I would seriously recommend that you see a different doctor. One that knows a little bit more about cervical cancer and the vaccine.
A baby can be exposed to HPV from their mother during vaginal birth, so even women with no exposure to sexual intercourse should still have Pap tests on occasion, but it might not be needed as often. I would suggest a frank discussion with your doctor. Also, a female doctor might be motivated to do a better job than a male doctor, since they understand on a personal level what it's like. If there's a gay clinic in your area, they might have someone more knowledgeable about your particular needs because some lesbians are likely to have similar physiological reactions.
The CDC has a lot of information on HPV here: http://www.cdc.gov/STD/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm

Hi Mary,
Looks like the group consensus is that you need to get a different doctor. Now that I think about it from other angles presented here, I'm thinking that not only is your doctor stupid, but he's cruel as well. Time for a new one.

I like cuddling too. Its basically a version of hugging. However, what I like doesn't need a bed. What I like can be done in a public place without getting arrested. I sleep naked so having anyone else in my bed would be really awkward. Its a queen size for one.
I'm allergic to cats and dogs so they can't stay on my bed. I have a cat, but she has her own place in the garage. I don't have dogs.

1. Name: Mary
2. Gender: Female
3. Age: 60
4. Location: Southern California
5. Have you ever had sex? No
6. What gender, if any, are you attracted to? Definately males
7. Are you open about your non-sexuality? Actually at my age I now fall into the "old maid" catagory. Also at my age there are many widows out there so there is little interest in my peer group. Hey the older you get the easier it is.
8. Are you married? No and never have been.
9. Do you have or want children? Definately yes. I have a wonderful 25 year old daughter that I adopted while in my mid-30's. I may not have an urge for sex but I have a hunk of a maternal instinct and an overwhelming need to be a mother. Still do Since my daughter grew up and moved out (the best 20 years of my life) I have been active in animal rescue and fostering and mother animals.
10. Do you like ANY human contact? Very much so. I am very much a hugger. I also love massages and find it a wonderful ease for my aches and pains.
11. Are you bothered by your asexuality? Sometimes. I had a psychic reading once where I was told that I was in a transition. My last couple of lives were spent as a nun and I was trying to break that rut but hadn't quite gotten there yet. Makes sense to me.
12. Do you date? Why bother? I guess if the right asexual man came around I would but he'd have to be somebody special. I have lots of friends to hang with and my kid in my life. I don't feel I am missing much
13. Have you ruled out possible medical/psychological reasons for your disinterest in sex? Maybe I dislike sex because it brings back unpleasant memories of traumatic sexual events. Maybe it's because I am not comfortable with my body. Maybe it's because I have a hormone imbalance. Maybe it's a combination of many factors. I don't know. I look at it this way ... since it is not currently affecting my life adversely, I don't feel the need to investigate the "whys" and "hows" at this time. AMEN to this answer and I won't change it. I do have an additional question but only to the females on this list that are virgins, Do you have problems with pap tests? They are so uncomfortable for me that I have stopped having them. Last test after screaming in pain for the whole test I made up my mind "no more". My doctor is not happy with that decision but I will not go through that pain again.
1. Name: Lythande
2. Gender: Female
3. Age: 19
4. Location: Nunn, CO, soon to be Nashville, TN
5. Have you ever had sex? No... I'm entirely socially inept andjust the idea kind of freaks me out. I used to get panicky when I thought that someday someone would require it from me. However... this doesn't necessarily go here, but I do get 'turned on' by yaoi... which is essentially anime/manga male/male homoerotica, and yes, I can masturbate to it. The idea of het relationships, though, is vaguely sickening in my mind... I was kind of curious as to whether or not anyone else was in any sort of similar situation... >>
6. What gender, if any, are you attracted to? I'm honestly not 'attracted' to anyone, ever. I view this as being equally attracted to both, though, because I'm a positive person. ^^
7. Are you open about your non-sexuality? If it comes up. I don't walk around wearing an AVEN tee-shirt (mostly cuz I can't afford one ^^), but if someone really needs ot know...... Actully, maybe should change that to a 'no'. I have a guy I'm going out with, andi haven't told him anything. Hell, I'm moving to Tennessee to get married and he doesn't know that yet.
8. Are you married? And if not, do you ever want to get married? I'm actually engaged to a girl I met over the internet. She knows I'm not really interested in sex, but it doesn't really freak me out as much as it would with a guy.
9. Do you have or want children? ........Allow me to be the first person to say Hell No. I honestly do not like children. I suppose maybe I just don't have experience with them, but I don't understand them and I don't like them. The last thing i really want ot do is have to take care of one.
10. Do you like ANY human contact? I do. I don't get it very much, but touching and cuddling and sweet little romantic things are great. Just... not with the guy I'm seeing (I don't know why. Maybe I'm not asexual at all but an undiscovered lesbian... )
11. Are you bothered by your asexuality? I used ot obsess over it. I was like "I'm a teenager. I should want *something*..." AndI never did. SO i quietly wrote about it in my journal and occasionally panicked. And then I heard about thisw on tv and haven't panicked since. ^^
12. Do you date? I know it's awful, but I'm really just using him. I do like him and I don't want to hurt him or his feelings, so I figure I'll just let it go until I leave the state, and that'll be the end. Then I'll be living with my fiancee and I won't have ot worry about it. I'm already a million times more comfortable with her without ever having met her than I am with anyone I know in my real life. Dating is bad, mmmkay? =(
13. Have you ruled out possible medical/psychological reasons for your disinterest in sex? I don't know. There are incidents in my childhood that might have given me penisophobia ^^, but I really don't care that much. I am how I am, and changing is too hard to be worth it.

When I was younger I did have a sex drive, although a low one. It's not until the past few years that I would really call myself asexual. 6. What gender, if any, are you attracted to? Male. 7. Are you open about your non-sexuality? No. It's only been a short time since I discovered that there was such an orientation as asexuality. I guess I'm still trying to understand it all myself. 8. As for medical, I suppose there could be, but I have no interest in finding out.
Dennis I did bring that up to my doctor and he told me I still should have a pap test, I told him that I would under one condition and that was that he put me out completely. I figure my chances of having cervical cancer are way cut down though so I don't worry. Mary
Hi Mary,
I'm not exactly a female virgin, but isn't the pap test used to detect cervical cancer? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but they discovered that cervical cancer was caused by an STD virus. They now have a vaccine. But since you are not sexually active, you shouldn't need to worry about STD's or the virus or cervical cancer or pap smears. I would seriously recommend that you see a different doctor. One that knows a little bit more about cervical cancer and the vaccine.
Dennis.

Hey Jen, Have you thought of a poodle? They're suppose to be o.k. for people with allergies. Mary
I love sleeping with my 2 cats. If I could sleep with a dog without it causing Asthma, I would invite a dog too. If I had my way, I'd sleep with lots of different animals. I adore animals to no end.

Any other animal people on this list? Mary ME! ME! ME! My dogs share my bed with me every night. My girl likes to sleep at the foot of the bed and my boy likes to be spooned. They are such babies! I love then so much. They bring me incredible joy and laughter.

Jen if you want children you'd better get going. Some states have an age requirement on adoption.

Mary,
Since we are all animal lovers, I think that's a great idea. I have 5 cats. It's not because I'm a "cat person" it's because cats fit my lifestyle. I like all animals in general. I started with only 2 cats and it has grown over time.
Slothie is the oldest, he's 12 yrs old and moved with me from NJ to WI and is the size of a llasa apso. When I moved, I had 2 cats, Slothie and Anubis. Anubis ( Nubie for short ) didn't travel very well, he suffered a stroke that left him paralized from the mid-back down. After exhausting both conventional medical treatment as well as accupuncture, he needed to be put down. He was my baby and I miss him greatly.
They say everything happens for a reason and soon I adopted Lola, an albino tabby, from the local shelter. Lola is a diva who will tell you exactly what is on her mind. I had Lola no more than a month when the vet I use, called to tell me that she had some special needs kittens, who had some physical disabilities and since I worked so tirelessly caring for Nubie, would I be interested in fostering them?
Needless to say, I said yes. Soon Binks and Bebe came to live with us. They were barely 3 weeks old (both fit into the bottom of an old velvet hat I had) Bebe was born with a club foot and Binks was so malnurished that they didn't expect him to survive. They both are jet black and looked just like Nubie. My heart melted and my foster "children" soon became a part of my family. Both are now 2 yrs old and I'm happy to report that Bebe gets around famously. Runs, jumps and climbs. Guess no one bothered to tell her she was handicapped.
The last addition to our family came in the form of Bo, a cuddly little grey and white tabby. Like Bebe and Binks, he was 3 weeks old and picked up in the parking lot of a local store. He had a dislocated kneecap and his tail was broken in 4 places. After sternly informing the animal control officer who dropped him off to my house, that I wouldn't be accepting anymore at this time, I took Bo into my heart.
He's just had his 1st birthday and is a little scamp. While all of my kids like sleeping with me (thank goodness for queen sized beds) Bo is the only one who likes sleeping beneath the covers. I laughingly refer to him as "He who walks between the sheets"
I could regale you with tales, but I won't. This is my big extended family. Lucky for me, my daughter likes them too.
This is great!!! I am so happy to meet so many animal lovers on this list. You know, I think one reason we all have been "shy" with one another is the fact we have been programed by society that there is something wrong with us.... that we are not "normal". I think we should relax and get to know one another and the only area of conversation not be centered around our not having sex, That's taken for granted just by joining this group. Let's just start talking about other things and see what else we have in common. I am excited to find so many animal lovers on this list. If, y'all don't mind I'll add a bit more to this conversation and introduce my animal family. I have 3 dogs, 6 cats (3 foster), 2 rats, a 3-toed turtle, and a parakeet. Let me introduce my dogs first. Teddy Bear a.k.a. Theodore wandered in about 11 years ago and never left. He looks like a 30 pound Llasa Apso/poodle mix. Next we have Shyla, a black/white American Pit Bull Terrier I rescued from t! he pound over a year ago at the age of 2. She's a real clown and keeps me laughing with her clownish antics. We have a bedtime ritual. I usually just sleep with a sheet over me. She jumps in bed ahead of me and goes into a frenzy arranging the sheet into a pile and then flops down on it. I have to climb over her and take back my sheet over her objections. She then grunps at me and finally lays down with a sigh rump to rump with me. My third dog, Margaret is a 18 month black lab that I am raising for a guide dog school. She's not allowed in bed with me so she sleeps on her dog mattress bedside my bed. In hot weather she'll sometimes lay on the floor under my bed. I am going to really miss her rumbling snore when she goes back to the school for training. Next are my cats. I have Tab who is a red head about 18 years old and very demanding at dinner time. Then we have Allyn a grey/white who is my buddy. When I'm on the couch he's beside me. He's my miracle cat because when he was little he was attacked by a dog and it was very touchy for his survival for a few days. After that we didn't know if he'd ever walk again as all the tendons in his back end were torn. He is alive though and he does walk. He just can't scratch his ears. My last cat is Grover who really doesn't like to be touched or petted but does like to sit on the couch and chew my hair on occasion. My rats are Margaret Jr. and Buck. They live in separate cages so I don't have additional rats. Both are sweet little loves. My turtle is Rikki who I've had since a hatchling and will be 4 this summer. Last but not least is Angel my parakeet who is very tame and loves to sit on my shoulder and talk to me. If you've read this far and aren't bored to death maybe you want to talk about your animal family. Mary

You could probably still do it if you had separate living quarters in the back or something for yourself. That way you'll be removed from it. And yes, people ARE going to do it in where they sleep. Its almost a rule.
Dennis.
