It's a pretty scant service, you have to pay for it so I think there are about (maybe) five people on it, and it doesn't really have any information. It was started by the woman who runs the Leatherspinsters (you'll find them if you do a search on asexuality.) She's got a very single-women-centered view of asexuality. Her main site is designed for the broad catagory (and somewhat uncanny) of straight and asexual single women (it explicitely excludes lesbians, I can't remember if it mentions by people.) It seems to be mostly a we-can-do-fine-without-a-man thing. Paradoxically she also offers a paid dating service which, from what I understand, is pretty inactive. If you want to find more resources on asexuality check out the links section on http://www.asexuality.org. There are links to a few pretty active communities and some good sites, or you can do a google search on asexuality or asexualism.
This list has gotten quite all of a sudden. Where is everyone? Can anyone throw out topics of conversation?

this is kinda hard for me 'cause i'm kinda shy and i've never actually communicated with others through the internet besides e- mail, so please excuse me if i seem kinda weird. well, uh, i guess, first of all, it's probably obvious i'm asexual myself, and i've just started looking for websites of the such only a couple nights ago and decided to join this group. (you wouldn't believe how excited i was to find out there were other people out there that i could think weren't the sexual type.) but it's not like i was sexually abused or anything, i'm naturally like this :] i guess i should explain a couple of my hobbies or something too, right? well, let's see, i like to be in nature, raise animals, write stories, draw pictures, make comics (i've been working on one for months that actually has a lot to do with asexuality), think analytically about things around me (you know, see from every perspective), make up my own theories and learn about the theories of others, read, umm, and a lot of other things, but i think i'm rambling on now. anyways, it's getting really late(the time is actually much later than it's posted as) and i'm starting to get really tired and uncapable of thinking straight. but thanks to anyone who'll bother to read this and sorry if i've offended you or anything else unpleasant (i can't remember what i typed), oh well... g' night

Welcome to the group! I myself am relatively new to this board. I believe most asexuals are excited once they learn and realize that there are other people in the world that are like themselves. You shouldn't apologize, there was nothing offensive in your introduciton. Tell us alittle more about the comix you're working on. Is it a comic strip or comic book? I've never really been a fan of hero/action comix, but I've read some underground comix by Jhonen Vasquez and Roman Dirge. I found it interesting that since I realized I'm asexual, I noticed that Vasquez's works lack relationships and sexuality (I guess you become more aware of that sort of thing).

Hey all: I am on one of my "extra happy" months, and I am so glad to be one of the lucky ones who is not enslaved by sexual desire. One good friend of mine had a bad experience soliciting a prostitute and was arreasted, and guess who he called to bail him out? Yes it was me. I am sorry for his dilemma but I thank God every day that I was not cursed with this irrational desire for sexual gratification which seems to drive some people into the ground. Despite my friend's troubles all is well with me, and this weekend I am going for another buggy ride with friends ( remember the Banana Splits?) and it's a great non-sexual activity. If I someday woke up with a desire for sex I think I would become very depressed. That's horrible!!

While there are definitely perks at times I wouldn't call being sexaul a "curse." I don't have any problem being asexual, it's a considerable part of who I am, and it's led me to have a life that I don't think I otherwise would have, a life that I'm very happy with. But I don't think that sexual people are "enslaved" or "irrational," or that we're superior in any way. In fact, I'd argue that it might be dangerous for everyone involved for us to start feeling superior to sexual people, it either implies that we're superior morally (which makes us kinda puritan) or genetically (which makes us kinda fascist. Not saying that you are, but I think it's problamatic in general to say "I was born better than you.") -DJ

you like johnen vasquez? i love his comics. i think he's also into the asexual thing too, most of his comics(besides jthm) mocks the sexual ways of our society and people in general. if you get the book " squee's big giant book of unspeakable horrors, " one of the series in it is called Wobbly Headed Bob. have you heard of it? he seems to display a lot of asexuality in that one, and a lot of other views on life that really makes sense(and sometimes not). The only thing about those comics is that they're so hard to find (i had to go all the way to canada for mine!) as for my comic, it's more like comic book, like an ongoing thing, but it's not really an action type. i'm really into science and evolution and things out of the ordinary, so many of these things go into it. my comic is about survival of the fittest, evolution of humans and other species(guess where asexualism comes in) genetic engineering and all that good stuff. i've been working on this comic for little more than a year, but most of it is either in my head, written down, or i've made a quick sketch it as a small chapter. i still need to make a lot more storylines and plots and the ending and everything else, but it's coming along very well for the short time i've been working on it, well, i think it is, but anyone who reads the fragmented sentences of ideas may have a different opinion...... thanks all for the welcome naissur9 wrote: Welcome to the group! i'm not too sure where to get underground comics from. i think you might be able to order them at borders or some other bookstore, but the only time i've ever seen jhonen vasques's comics was when i went to canada last month, and i bought every one i saw. have you ever seen the cartoon "invader zim" ? jhonen makes that one too. if anyone knows how to attach pictures to these messages, i could scan a page to show what his comics are like...

You can order most of Jhohen Vasques' comics direct from the publisher at:
http://www.slavelabor.com/
They have all of the Squee issues, as well as JTHM, and I Feel Sick.
i don't exactly have a credit card or a checking account(is that something i should be saying on the internet?). if i did i'd 'prolly have that whole collection by now. and a lot of other things..... oh well.
actually, through slavelabor.com, you can pay with a money order. Thats what I did. I also don't have a credit card or checking account: ( What really sucks is that half.com doesn't take money orders to my knowledge. Otherwise I'd buy lots of cheap books and music from there.

I love jhonen. I've read everything of his; jthm, squee, i feel sick, fillerbunny, bac (i was alittle disappointed in bac and the fillbunny series) I also watch invader zim, i love GIR! (who wouldn't?) Its been awhile since I read squee and wobbly headed bob, but what I can remember, I thought bob was mocking love and relationships. Some months ago when I was searching for jhonen stuff on ebay, I came across a more independent comic guy who has a similar style to jhonen's. It was Neurotically Yours by Jonathan Ian Mathers. His stuff is a bit more sexual in nature, but his character in that strip was also a bit asexual. The main character also has a rapid pet squirrel named Foamy that reminds me of GIR! http://www.geocities.com/fourwhyrecords/enter.html As for your own comic, it sounds absolutely fascinating: ) I've always been into evolutionary theories and ideas (i'm not very religious) alice.

I have a question, which is can you be asexual if you have a sex drive? I feel that I am asexual because I am NEVER sexuallyy attracted to anybody, any person, EVER
However I can, at certain times of the month, have a sex drive, on a physical level...
I think so, even if there are some who say that they don't physiologically feel any sexual urge. I certainly do, but I have no need to act on it.
Welcome! I personally would say that you can. Read the two faqs on http://www.asexuality.org/info.htm <http://www.asexuality.org/info.htm> for more info on this.

How is it one can have a sex drive and not be sexually attracted?? A sex drive is simply a sexual attraction, yes? I assumed they're exactly the same thing, at least I can't possibly imagine how they'd be different or seperate..

I'm not one to complain about how a club is going, normally... but there's been a trend here occasionally that... well... spooks me a bit, almost. There's often either an apparent hatred for sex, or, more worrisome, an almost hostile attitude toward sexual people. Its like a freakin' ice cream flavor. We're not going to go oppressing people who like vanilla when we like chocolate are we? Hope not. I don't put much stock in sex, but some people do have long, fufilling, loving relationships that clearly have a sexual nature to the love. They'll describe the sheer joy derived from it as far, far beyond a platonic love or friendship, a joy beyond description. So... these people are feeling joy beyond comparision to any of the activities we've ever known... and we're going to act superior? Uhm. I'm sorry, but if anyone's superior, its the ones who can find that joy of joys that is beyond anything in a non-sexual life. I only wish I knew it. But I don't. So I'm stuck with platonic relationships, unless something changes... and I'm not going to find this joy of joys that's apparently a million times more intense than anything else in life. I apparently may very well be the only one here who actually thinks I'm missing something, that asexuality isn't such a great lot in life, that something truly great and wonderful is lost.

I for one disagree with you. Not that I'm being hostile in my disagreement or anything. ;) I just don't see things the way you do. I could back that up, but I've voiced my opinion in lengthy posts on this board before. I don't see myself as superior, but I don't see the need for sex, and the enjoyment of sex as something superior either. That is akin to saying that one who enjoys spinach a whole lot has some great fundamental Thing that other people who dislike spinach are just missing out on. They don't like it, so they don't eat it. They enjoy other things with equal or perhaps even greater joy. Sure, they aren't getting spinach, but big deal, they absolutely *love* peas.
You yourself started out by saying it is just an ice cream flavour, but by the end of your post, it became more than just an ice cream flavour. :)

I sure wasn't saying everyone here has such a hostile attitude toward sex! Obviously not everyone does. I did say though that it seems like I'm the only one that thinks maybe I'm missing something though. I meant to say that _arguing_ or claiming to be better than sexual people, is like arguing or persecuting, etc, over an ice cream flavor. Sexualality, or lack thereof, is certainly a more important ocncept than ice cream, but nonetheless, superior attitudes on it are as silly as superior atittudes based on ice cream.

hi and welcome. I personally think that a person can be asexual and periodically have a sex drive. Women's hormones naturally fluxuat during the menstral cycle, and at times they reach a high enough level to produce a sex drive. But if this sex drive is not normally apart of your personality, I see no wrong in calling yourself asexual. I sometimes have a short lived drive that is even directed towards someone, but it's never strong enough to persue anything, and within a day it's gone.

yes, I agree with Ioa... now I may sound rather simplistic but sex is one aspect (supposedly as determined/dictated by society) that I don't participate in. I don't go around brandishing it nor try to convert anyone about it, who the heck really cares anyway??? I don't feel inadequate in any way or form. I have friends I go out with and do a lot of activities with. I surf, snowboard, go to movies, eat out, clubbing, etc., and yet I don't ponder/contemplate/analyze why I'm not getting any. This does not make me feel nor do I feel superior to anyone who are actively pursuing sex. Yes, I do agree that sometimes some of my buddies b/s about sex but it's only b/s so I don't take it seriously. Just my opinion.

It's kind of hard to explain... I say I am not sexually attracted because I have no sexual attraction towards any specific person. I have never been 'turned on' sexually by anybody, I have never had a sexual urge towards any person.
At certain times, I have a slight sort of 'horniness' - but it is entirely physical and is not so much of a 'sex drive' as an 'itch' if that makes sense.
