London Central Secondary School, in London, Ontario. I've been living in Edmonton only since 1985...

As for the Londonderry Mall incident -- missed it completely. I guess I wasn't paying attention to the news that weekend...

Re: Dear Dog, er God

Parent Comment

Dear God, Why do humans smell the flowers,

but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

Dear God, When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch?

Or is it the same old story?

Dear God, Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a dog?

How often do you see a cougar riding around? We dogs love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?

Dear God, If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?

Dear God, We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths.

What do humans understand?

Dear God, More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.

Dear God, When we get to the Pearly Gates, do we have to shake hands to get in?

Dear God, Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?

Dear God, Let me give you a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good dog:

I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it up. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell. I will not munch on "leftovers" in the kitty litter box; although they are tasty, they are not food.

The diaper pail is not a cookie jar.

The sofa is not a face towel; neither are Mom and Dad's laps.

The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.

My head does not belong in the refrigerator.

I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Mom's driver's license and registration.

I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.

Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is not an acceptable way of saying 'hello.'

I do not need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm lying under the coffee table.

I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house.

I will not throw up in the car.

I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt across the carpet.

I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch when company is over.

The cat is not a squeaky toy, so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.

Dear God, May I have my testicles back?

I have a real flamer friend, he's just the sweetest thing and LOVES flaming around homophobes. My cousin's wife is a real prim & proper thing and wanted us to go to one of her shitty Mary Kay parties. We said 'no' but then I said we could take Daniel with us - he'd be such a riot. Before we could do it, the girl decided she didn't want to sell Mary Kay anyway (too much like work for her).

Yesterday, we on had one child with us, the youngest one. He's 7. We went to the mall to get some things, when all of a sudden he blurts out that the santa wasn't the real Santa. My husband and I looked at each other (our famous parents look, then we asked him if it wasn't the real santa then who was it? He looked at his dad and said "well daddy don't you know that the real santa is up in the norht pole making sure all the toys are being made and that this santa is his helper?" We looked at each other again this time with a smile and a wink. then it dawned on us when we get home we had to do some serious talking to the other kids, because we still have a child that believes in Santa Claus. I told my boys that my youngest said he believes in Santa Still, but my oldest on told my youngest to go out of the room. My oldest tells me in his strange voice.." mommy I still believe in santa clause but only because you do and your 31" I gave out a chuckle and asked him to explain... He tells me that we all are Santa clause in our hearts when we give coats and toys to other kids who don't have them. When we leave food on the doorstep of someone who needs it. or like your did mom when you bought a whole bunch of school supplies and left them on the neighbors step because you knew she couldn't afford to get her son some new school supplies in the middle of the school year. So see mom we're all Santa Clause as long as we remember to give to someone who might not have anything.

I used to know a gay man who came to work in a dress. Some people objected (this was a university) but I thought he really made an interesting statement on just how ridiculous dresses are. He didn't accessorize or otherwise dress up, it's just like here was this guy coming to work in an old jumper because that's what he felt like wearing. He was the one who really showed me that "Queens" were not something to be offended by, but rather people to enjoy life's oddities with...he really had a great sense of humor and the absurd.

No Christmas this Year

T'was the night before Christmas, Old Santa was pissed. He cussed out the elves and threw down his list. Miserable little brats, ungrateful little jerks. I have a good mind to scrap the whole works.

I've busted my ass for damn near a year. Instead of "Thanks Santa" - what do I hear? The old lady bitches cause I work late at night... The elves want more money - The reindeer all fight.

Rudolph got drunk and goosed all the maids. Donner is pregnant and Vixen has AIDS. And just when I thought that things would get better, Those assholes from IRS sent me a letter.

They say I owe taxes - if that ain't damn funny. Who the hell ever sent Santa Claus any money? And the kids these days - they all are the pits. They want the impossible .Those mean little sh*ts.

I spent a whole year making wagons and sleds, Assembling dolls. Their arms, legs and heads, I made a ton of yoyo's. No request for them... They want computers and robots, they think I'm IBM.

Flying through the air dodging the trees, Falling down chimneys and skinning my knees. I'm quitting this job there's just no enjoyment. I'll sit on my fat ass and draw unemployment.

There's no Christmas this year now you know the reason... I found me a blonde. I'm going SOUTH for the season!

Angel Decoy

Angel Decoy Photos of an Air Force C-130 releasing flares to repel heat seeking missiles. The pattern formed by these "decoys" are how they got their name... It's truly awesome!

Because maneuvers are usually in remote areas and over water, the general public does not get to see these exercises.

Pretty Neat huh?

Re: [Haven for the Human Amoeba] Re: Gender Equity "Slovenly Dress codes"

Parent Comment

Therese, I am sure you are correct and it would take a great deal inside for me to have regular contact with someone who dresses slovenly because I have such a reaction. Since this is a reaction not a response it is difficult to contain. Oh sure outwardly I can contain myself but inside it truly makes me ill.

Actually, I have not noticed the homeless dressing in sleazy clothing. Sure they may or may not be disheveled but that is a far cry from "sleaze attack wear" and then I must disagree with part of what you said.

I have seen the MULTITUDES of people dressing like they are looking for a "role in the hay" partner. This is just sickening to me. I don't know if anything besides this and the color red that makes me truly want to hug the porcelain god in the bathroom.

I mean, c'mon what about those women walking down the street to their car wiggling their butts. Ya know, this takes a lot of practice to step and wiggle at the same time.

Yes, yes I can seem a bit funny in my descriptions but I still think they have some clear accuracy to them.

Smile, Jen

I am hoping that both can wear comfortable clothing and tramps are not accepted. I dislike seeing men or women in sleezy clothing.

The only thing I can think of on this one is that homeless people often don't have much of a choice, and the rest may have mental problems that we don't know about...so I try to be patient even with the slovenly. Sometimes you just gotta see the person and not pay so much attention to the clothes...which is kind of the point of the thread anyway! (-:

Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah, especially in this day and age with AIDS and so on, it's kind of disheartening. One hopes they use some kind of protection if that's what they're after.

Some women though, that's all they ever knew. I find it hard to fault people for ignorance. If they deliberately court danger, that's a psychological problem which needs a longer term solution, but ignorance is something that can be corrected if the person is willing to listen and the message is presented without insult.

As for colors, I know some artists and they seem to enjoy bright colored clothing and often also handmade items such as hats, scarves, and handbags. It goes well with their trade but I guess you have to know that's what they do to really appreciate it.

I really have to agree. I'm male and I'm very happy about it, because I can get away with wearing floppy tracksuit trousers and an old green shirt, both splattered with paint, and a pair of trainers split on the bottom - and no one comments! I feel terrible for girls who have to agonise for hours over their wardrobes, I really do!

But don't you feel the trend for is reversing somewhat? I can get away with dressing like a tramp, but most of the guys around here are rich enough to get good clothes, and spend time making their hair look good instead of living with the 'Young Einstein' effect like I do. Perhaps one day we'll find that, as work clothes become more casual, uncomfortable but aesthetic attire will become the norm, and even a requirement, among men?

I hope not...

- Jordan

All of that might be true. However, you can't get away with wearing a dress, a skirt, frilly blouses or a sexy negligee.

Yes, Alberta is our version of the midwest. We have everything but tropical tho'. To the west we have the Rocky mountains, to the north we have the start of the tundra (I mean way north, not just outside of Edmonton or anything), this area is farm and parkland, out east is the start of the great prairie, we have some desert and badlands, ranching etc etc. Only thing we don't have is tropical (but don't tell Calgary, they seem to think they live in paradise LOL)

I'm not an artist or anything... most of my wardrobe is black. At more than one workplace, I've created a sensation by doing nothing more than showing up wearing a bright(er) colour. The first time I wore a purple sweatshirt to work, you'd think I'd have come in wearing something that glowed in the dark, the way people reacted. :)

(Comment to Cijay: remember the Dinosaur World Tour about 10 years ago here in Edmonton? Remember how the volunteers for the event wore purple sweatshirts? That's the one.)

Therese, he sounds like a lot of fun and he doesn't even sound like a true flamer. The flamers I am speaking of are quite dramatic and could not have gone withouth the extras either.

I did see a man YEARS ago on Phil Donahue show who commonly wore a skirt with a shirt and tie. He was not femme nor was he gay. He simply wanted this option along with equal rights as a divorced father.

I must say that flamers really make me roll over. Sometimes their whole get up just makes me break out laughing. I must say I try very hard not to do this in public but it's still hysterical to me.

Re: Gender Equity "Edmonton"

Therese, I believe there is. It is late here in califunny-fornicate so everyone is in bed sleeping. Tomorrow, I'll ask my Ma cuz I think she'll know. I could swear there is but I'm just not sure exactly where.

Where are you now?

Jen

Hey, Jen, there's an Alberta in California??? Where? I couldn't find it on Google.

BTW, I'm a native Californian and prefer "Califunny." That's because California has every type of kook you can imagine, and maybe a few more you can't.

Isn't Alberta like Canada's "midwest"? (Wheat fields?)

Re: [Haven for the Human Amoeba] Angel Decoy

Parent Comment

Angel Decoy Photos of an Air Force C-130 releasing flares to repel heat seeking missiles. The pattern formed by these "decoys" are how they got their name... It's truly awesome!

Because maneuvers are usually in remote areas and over water, the general public does not get to see these exercises.

Pretty Neat huh?

Cijay, now this would have been worth it. That surely would have been fun in this situation.

Re: Gender Equity "The Roost"

I have a real flamer friend, he's just the sweetest thing and LOVES flaming around homophobes. My cousin's wife is a real prim & proper thing and wanted us to go to one of her shitty Mary Kay parties. We said 'no' but then I said we could take Daniel with us - he'd be such a riot. Before we could do it, the girl decided she didn't want to sell Mary Kay anyway (too much like work for her).

Yes, it would've been great, darn Jessica for ruining our fun and bowing out of Mary Kay altogether. Shauna (her sis in law, my cousin) was the one who asked if I'd come because she'd told Jessica she'd have the party but only if she could round up enough people in advance. Then she ran around telling people to say 'no'. When I proposed the idea of Daniel she said "for THAT, I would have the party." but by then Jessica had said she didn't want to sell Mary Kay anyway.

Re: Gender Equity "Slovenly Dress codes"

Therese, when I mentioned the color red it has to do with a trauma. The color itself basically makes me sick. It doesn't matter who is wearing it, why it is being use and so on. I think bright colors can be wonderful with the exception of RED.

I don't think men or women behave sexually by accident. In fact I have had many discussions with women concerning this topic and after she blushes (whoever the she is at the moment) and then is honest it usually has to do with somehow making herself feel attractive. This is not ignorance or mental illness. I do believe it is an EASY way to achieve good feelings for ones self.

I would agree with you on your 2 points at the same time. If one is ill i.e. with Bipolar Disorder causing the thrill of danger to be a driving force in ones life it can be a serious problem that is difficult to harness even with help.

As for the ignorant true again. If one is patient, models another way of life and teaches without insult then she/he can become more open/interested in a different way of life. It does require a lot of support because this is a strong force in some peoples emotional foundation and therefore the need to create a different emotional base take a long time.
