1. Name/age: Elizabeth / 32

2. Gender: androgynous female

3. Race: White

4. Geographic Location: Northwest Arkansas

5. Have you ever had sex? No

6. What gender, if any, are you attracted to? I'm emotionally attracted to both males and females

7. Are you open about your non-sexuality? with friends

8. Are you married? No

And if not, do you ever want to get married? Yes

Do you crave non-sexual romance? YES!

9. Do you have or want children? Nope

10. Do you like ANY human contact? YES

11. Are you bothered by your asexuality? Sometimes, as I feel I may never find another asexual to spend my life with. Life would be easier as sexual. I don't want to remain alone the rest of my life.

12. Do you date or desire companionship? I do desire companionship, and would date if I could find other asexuals or celibate individuals.

Do you like to kiss? NO. Ugh.

13. Have you ruled out possible medical/psychological reasons for your disinterest in sex? No. Psychological reasons may be a contributing factor, but I really feel I was born this way. It's a sort of instinct I have.

14. Were you sexually molested as a child either by adults or other children? I was sexually abused.

15. When did you first start to realize that you were different from other people in terms of your sexuality? High school. I simply thought I was a late bloomer. In college I began to conceive myself as inhuman, until I found AVEN.

1. Name/age: Susan / 55

3. Race: White

4. Geographic Location: South Central Texas

5. Have you ever had sex? Yes, too often.

6. What gender, if any, are you attracted to? I'm emotionally more attracted to males.

7. Are you open about your non-sexuality? with friends, but they tend to think there is something wrong with me. I, personally, think there is something wrong with them.

8. Are you married? No. I have been married twice.

And if not, do you ever want to get married? Not again unless I can find a gentleman who understands that I DON'T NEED sex.

Do you crave non-sexual romance? Somewhat. I have been divorced for 18 years, so I do okay as a loner.

9. Do you have or want children? I have three, but would not do it. My maternal instincts are not real strong.

10. Do you like ANY human contact? Not much. I come from a non-touching family.

11. Are you bothered by your asexuality? No. I just wish others weren't bothered by the fact that I don't have an interest in sex.

12. Do you date or desire companionship? I have dated a little recently, but same old thing. The sex has to get in the way and I think I am going to have to break it off. I don't get it. He can't perform, but still insists just messing around is fun and that I need it. Wrong!!!!!!!!!!

Do you like to kiss? Not really.

13. Have you ruled out possible medical/psychological reasons for your disinterest in sex? I don't think my meds have that side effect. Psychologically, probably. I personally cannot stand the smell of sex or someone else's body oils on my sheets. Gross!!! My dog sleeping on my bed is okay, though.

14. Were you sexually molested as a child either by adults or other children? Yes. By my older brother from before I can remember until about eleven and touched inappropriately by a man who owned the riding stables I loved to go to. Had to stop seeing my brother for many years and stop seeing the horse I loved.

15. When did you first start to realize that you were different from other people in terms of your sexuality? I never felt comfortable with sex, but let me tell you, that didn't stop me from trying to please every man that way. I have called myself asexual for several years as my friends laugh and try to convince me sex is "just part of it". Nope

Questionaire

Copy this page and send it to the group with the appropriate answers.

1. Name/age: Susan/55 2. Gender: Female

3. Race:White 4. Geographic Location: South Central Texas> > 5. Have you ever had sex? yes

6. What gender, if any, are you attracted to? I enjoy admiring nice bodies of either gender, but I am not sexually attracted to either. 7. Are you open about your non-sexuality? To some. I hope to become more open now that I have found out I am not "not normal". I have used the term "asexual" jokingly referring to me with friends. They say I am too young not to enjoy sex. What's to enjoy?

8. Are you married? Divorced for 18 years.

And if not, do you ever want to get married? Maybe. I would like to have a companion, male or female, with no sex. Do you crave non-sexual romance? Crave? No. It would be nice on occasion to have someone to share everyday happenings with.

9. Do you have or want children? I already have 3 grown children.

10. Do you like ANY human contact? Not much. I was raised in a family that showed no emotion, especially, touching.

11. Are you bothered by your asexuality? Not at all. I just wish I could convince others to not be bothered by it and to stop trying to fix me.

12. Do you date or desire companionship? I haven't dated much in recent years. Lately, a couple of dates, but they always end up with sex being the issue. I have told this gentleman I am not interested, so don't worry that he is impotent, but he still wants to "make me happy". Then leave me alone!!

Do you like to kiss? It is okay, but I don't have to kiss.

13. Have you ruled out possible medical/psychological reasons for your disinterest in sex? No. I just think sex smells nasty and I don't want someone else's body oils on my sheets. My olfactories are offended by sex. Basically, sex stinks!

14. Were you sexually molested as a child either by adults or other children? Yes. My older brother from before I can remember and the man who owned the riding stables. Let him fondle you and you get to ride free.

15. When did you first start to realize that you were different from other people in terms of your sexuality? I never liked sex, but I realize now that it is perfectly okay for me to not want to engage in sex. I think after seeing how many people feel the same as I do, it makes me feel "other people" are different. Now, I hope to empower myself enough to tell others, when the subject comes up, that I am "ASEXUAL" and explain it to them.

Spiritual Intimacy and androgyny

yeah. I have to say I think there are sexual connections in spirit interactions too. I think there are whole groups of folks who call that Tantric. I don't know so much about all of that. But I can say some imaginary partners feel more "real" than others.

I do know that I feel deeper connections with some people, and others... I am just staring across the table at their body and talking to them. Some people I meet for two minutes and feel a desire to keep in touch and make friends with them for years. Others I can know for years and I still have trouble remembering their name.

I do not think this feeling of connection is necessarily connected to sexual touch. I meet people who love to get their rub on but can't even perceive another human being. And I meet people I have platonic relationships with and they are some of my most important adult lifemates who challenge me to grow.

The Universe is a big place. Why wouldn't God's awareness wander about making friends, loving, laughing, and connecting? Why stereotype how all the flavors of love are "supposed" to manifest?

So does anyone have any favorite hobbies?

Nicole

****************** I am a Massage Therapist and Spiritual Minister, and LOVE this subject...lol. Watch out, don't get me started.

I feel very strongly that this type connection is like connecting with the "God" in others...we are all connected Spiritually and our "Souls" or internal energies can find each other and bond and interact. I have seen many amazing things, healings like "laying on of hands", someone being able to tell who is near them (from behind, blindfolded, with earplugs and white noise, and scent mask on), and someone relaying stories of visiting relatives while they were in a coma (the stories were true). Other stuff too.

I know we can connect this way...I've seen it, and done it myself.

There are many other ways to connect intimately besides sexually. Jen

Dennis, I experienced suspicions of being a pedophile and a lesbian seeking to find a straight woman and change her. Well, neither is true. I've never married, never want sex and I don't understand the drive to desire bumping uglies either.

I'd like to adopt a child or 2 and I'd like a life companion without sex.

Anyway, as you can see this also effects women too.

[Haven for the Human Amoeba] Singles don't get no respect.

There are a lot of unfair prejudices out there. The assumption that sex = love is only one of them. As a single guy, I have to put up with a ton of prejudices against single men. According to society, the only reason for a man to stay single is because he likes to molest little children and is a pedophile sex offender.

I've never done anything like that, but because I'm a single man, people look at me and treat me like I have. As long as they don't find out I'm single, they are ok with me, but as soon as the subject comes up, they pull their kids away from me.

The wife of a long time friend of mine called me up and demanded to know what I did with her daughter after she was overdue. Of course, I had nothing to do with her missing daughter and she eventually turned up safe and sound. That only goes to show you the level of this kind of prejudice.

My friend told me that I should start wearing a wedding band so I would get better respect. I don't, but I am still considering it.

I was wondering if any other guys out there have experienced this kind of prejudice?

Dennis.

Hello everyone, my name is Megan and I just joined the group. Im 25 years old and live in Southern California. I was looking around on the internet for celibacy groups but after a little reading Im wondering if I would be better categorized as asexual. I was wondering how a person might know for sure? Is it like a disease that can be diagnosed? Does my lack of sexual drive mean Im asexual? I have so many questions, and so far not many answers. If anyone could help me out or would just like to chat please feel free to respond.

Does anyone live in Boston, MA US?

Want to get a cup of coffee? Just looking for pals. I like music, bellydancing (not good at it yet), and going to parks. I'm happy to get together and knit, chat, hang out... I've been friends with people of all ages.

Female person, age 32... if you want my stats.

I live in Waltham. I have a bit of a crazy work schedule, but I certainly wouldn't mind meeting up for some coffee.

I'm a 36 year old female, and when I can find the time I like to do paper crafts, reading and writing. I also enjoy playing tourist.

It's been a while since I had a pen pal, (and I really miss having one). So if you're still interested, feel free to contact me via private e-mail with your address and I'll do the same.

Midwest?

Hey people, just wanna get some opinions/comments/not sure what. I moved from NY to Madison, WI a year ago. Here comes the retarded sounding question, but I don't know how to phrase it better :(

Compared to the east, people are are far more reserved (not a good or a bad thing, they just ARE like that). Ive got into uncomfortable situations with many a woman because I can come across as too direct from their point of view (personally, I am quite toned down but meh).

This brings up the sexuality question; Im used to people being far more open (if I might say at times TOO open) about sex back in the east. I don't know what to make of the situation here - are they as eager for sex?

Why am I asking this question - because I don't know how they will react to me being asexual. I don't know how they judge that, or make of it. It doesn't really matter in the scheme of things but Im curious. It would help interact with the opposite sex a bit better if I know what their expectation is.
