For humans, being asexual does not mean having an ability to clone yourself on the spot like an amoeba. For the most part, it also does not mean to have no sexual organs. So what, exactly, is it?
The definition of Asexualityis a lack of sexual attraction.
A study published by the New Scientist magazine in October, 2004 estimated that 1% of the human population is asexual, and confirmed the existence of asexuality in both humans and other animals....

That is interesting. I have grown into asexuality. I had more of a drive when I was younger. I just have absolutely no interest now. I was wondering if there are people in the group who are dealing with some sort of medical celibacy/

Is it difficult to communicate on this site?
I wrote an email but it took a day to get posted. Then it seemed a bunch got posted all at the same time. Is that Yahoo that's the problem?
It does mess with communication, especially as I persevered and posted it again, througn the website, so got both copies onto the haven's forum, eventually.
Someone should move this group to Facebook, where it would be easier to communicate. Or I might just be computer-challenged... LOL

I don't see it as a choice, except that there are surely many people who engage in sexual acitivity who don't really want to. They may just think they should.
Society lays a guilt trip on us, to conform. I am still getting pressured and I am not young anymore.

Well, I think it is difficult. I guess if I looked at the messages on the Yahoo webpage it would be different, but they all get sent to my email and that is where I read them. Then I have to go to the Yahoo page to post a reply. Just seems kind of inconvenient.

I concur, Sue. When I meet people every so often I hear after I share I am not married, never had been, don't have a boyfriend, nor have any children - 'are ya Gay?!" And I reply, no.
I feel some people are fearful or cautious of people like me. But they sure love me when the Holidays come around so I can 'work' for them.
I get real tired of psychology of spewing that most everything us humans do has to do with sex and if you are not having sex than there is something wrong with you....

Yes it has...what shall we talk about? I'm curious to know if others have been asxeual all their lives or did they grow into it. I had a somewhat of a sex drive when I was younger but have none now, that I am 54. I just think sex is lame and boring. It's just bumping uglies and a total waste of time. I'm curious as to how many men are on the group?

Janeane Garofalo: If You Will - Live in Seattle
....First up on the list is one of Garofalo’s favorite subjects from the olden days: sexuality – in this case, her lack thereof. Despite her boyfriend of 10 years being her roommate, Janeane has found bliss in crossing sexual attraction, and all the pretense that goes with it, off her list of daily things to do....
.... Janeane’s sentimentality shone through slightly in her talks about her asexuality and new perspective on romance, but when she starts talking about puppies and the shelter you realize she’s softened over the years.... I would love to see this group come alive. Honestly, I forgot all about this group until a recent email.
Let's take role call! I'll be the first: Dee-Dee from Modesto, CA here! :)
I am sorry, but I am just shy about talking on the phone to ppl I meet on the internet.

I don't see it as a choice, except that there are surely many people who engage in sexual acitivity who don't really want to. They may just think they should.
Society lays a guilt trip on us, to conform. I am still getting pressured and I am not young anymore.

No medical celibacy here. Just a choice.

That is interesting. I have grown into asexuality. I had more of a drive when I was younger. I just have absolutely no interest now. I was wondering if there are people in the group who are dealing with some sort of medical celibacy/

I am sick of all the @#$%@#$ flak I get about being asexual/aromantic too!

Someone should move this group to Facebook, where it would be easier to communicate. Or I might just be computer-challenged... LOL
Yeah, but then everything becomes public on fb.

Amen. I view sexuality like a pendulum. Super right you are hyper sexual and super left you are asexual. I consider myself asexual, but I do not suspress my sexuality either. I have urges every so often, but I can deal with them on my own without feeding the need with some guy.

Married women get lonely too. I don't know what the answer is.
I understand the pressure. I would love to get married though and have an affectionate yet celibate marriage. It's been lonely.
